Power & Control

Domestic Violence is About Power & Control
“Domestic violence is any attempt to maintain power and control over an intimate partner that instills fear in the victim. The use or threat of physical, emotional or sexual abuse is an issue of power and control for the abuser. Believing it is his right to control the victim through any means necessary, abusers often are unable to see any real harm in their violent behavior.”

The Purple Ribbon

October 1st, 2007

Purple RibbonOctober is National Domestic Violence Awareness month.

Two years ago I realized my children and I were in danger. So much has changed since then, and yet it is still so hard for me to write about it. But thanks to the grace of God and the courage of other women who were willing to share their stories, I was able to face myself and walk through my fear. I am a survivor and tonight I light a candle in solidarity with other survivors (our numbers are legion) and in memory of the precious women and children who were overcome.
