For now, this is gonna hurt…
April 7th, 2008 | by Me |
I started my annual Spring cleanse on March 31st. I have a lot to accomplish in April and felt the time would be perfect to detox my body, mind and spirit with a cleanse.
A few days into April, and I hadn’t blogged because I was otherwise engaged in keeping up with life. Followed by a weekend which came and went and still no blog entry because I was drawing a blank. Then a healing crisis headache hit and stayed, and now I have something to write about.
The first days of a cleanse are always the hardest for me, as I struggle to give up my sweet tooth and carnivorous cravings. On top of that, it seems to take so long, that I wonder if anything is happening. Finally after a few days, cloudy thinking settles in, fatigue, ennui, headaches, cold sores and sometimes even a yeast infection (was that too much information?). Ah, yes. The cleanse has officially begun.
And that’s were I am today. This is the second night I’ve had a headache. And I’m glad. Clearly, the detox is working. Soon the worse of the toxins will have been flushed out of my system, the sugar cravings will be gone, I’ll have more energy and clarity of thought, and I’ll be off on raw/vegetarian regime for the summer.
So yes, I am hurting now. But there is a light at the end of the tunnel. How very wabi sabi
light at the end of the tunnel

Water, water, water! How much water are you drinking?
That’s not enough!
Ok, yes, there is a maximum amount of water someone can drink, but I’m going to guess you could safely up your present intake.
btw, we’re going up to that park day in VC on Thurs. Coming?

oop. I should add that I am 90% sure we’re going to that park day.

Water is definitely my friend! I’m plucking limes off the tree, at least twice a day, to mix with the gallons of water I am drinking

Oh, oh, oh, good luck! I know it ends soon but that doesn’t usually make the owee go away. (See: Childbirth.) My thoughts are with you and I’m hoping for the nice thing and cleansed part to kick in soon!
Sending cleansing thoughts…

Hi, happy to have found your blog & your twitterings! I’m wondering what you did for your cleanse? I’ve gotten deeper into sweets in the last 6 months than I have been for the last 6 years and I need to be a bit more proactive about digging my way out…!

The good thing about a cleanse is it flushes out all those yeasty beasties which make you crave sweets. After a good cleanse, I find my dark chocolate cravings are none existent and I have to be reminded to buy it, as opposed to being “drawn” to it (no more sudden deters to See’s Candies)
So, pre-cleanse, I stop eating meat, and processed foods in general and focus on getting lots of fresh greens (spinach and collards are great internal cleansers), uncooked fruits and veggies in my diet. And water. Lots of water. I have a lime and lemon tree, so fresh squeezed juice in the water is an easy accompaniment, both tasty and good for me.
After about 2wks, I get outside help and bring in the big guns. Right now I’m using Nature’s Way Thisilyn Cleanse with Herbal Digestive Sweep. it is a 15 day program. Still drinking lots of H2O and I’m feeling really good.
When the 15 days is up, I will try to keep a mostly veggie diet, with fish and chicken for protein.
