Vacation — Day 3

August 15th, 2007 | by Me |

The past week has been a non-stop, no time to eat, no time to sleep, all out rush. I finished a grueling summer semester (who’s bright idea was that? note to self: summer school? never a good idea.), buttoned up a work project with smoke, mirrors and the kind of determination that only comes when the future of the world, er, I mean vacation, is threatened, and completed a late night laundry marathon.

It was not pretty. It was not perfect. It was wabi sabi. Which is me :-)

As you can see from my tweets (and the title of this post), I’m now enjoying the fruit of my labors. My children and I escaped the big city and took a trip on a train. We ended up in colorful Colorado and I plan on spending the next week loosing myself in nature and reconnecting with my children.

Today we walked/hiked/climbed in the Garden of the Gods.

Garden of the Gods

The colors were amazing - blue sky, white clouds, red rocks, green trees - and the weather was perfect. Throughout the afternoon God blessed us with refreshing light showers and when the children were totally exhausted, God sent a heavy downpour to let us know it was time to go. Hey, they don’t call it the Garden of the Gods for nothing.

As I type this, I am in my room watching Discovery HDTV on a lovely 42″ plasma screen tv (even on vacation, I multitask), the littles are asleep in the other room and the bigs are down in the business center getting their Naruto fix on the computers. Don’t blame them. They got their geek genes from me.

A big just came in to grab a drink out of the refrigerator. As she runs back out she says, “I love vacation.” I smile. Me too.

What a fantastic vacation you’re having. I’m glad the train trip worked out well. We’ve opted to drive on our trip - but I’m secreting your advice away about live food. I’ll need to make sure I pack snacks that I like. I can’t imagine making a trip for 3 - 5 days on a train. It sounds like it might be closest thing to mom torture I can come up with.

I hope your vacation stays wonderful!

    I owe you a coke?
Hmm…now how am I going to make good on that one?
